Padres first baseman Wil Myers' busy schedule just got busier.
On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced Myers as one of the participants for the All-Star Home Run Derby. The event is Monday evening at Petco Park.
Three weeks ago, Myers was named an All-Star ambassador to the 87th All-Star Game being hosted by the Padres. This week, Myers was selected as an All-Star participant for the first time.
And now he will swing away in the Home Run Derby at his home ballpark.
In recent days, Myers made his hopes known for receiving a Derby invitation. Myers said his younger brother, Beau, would be his pitcher. The younger Myers is an infielder/outfielder at Appalachian State.
Myers played himself into the All-Star Game _ and the Derby _ last month when he smashed 11 home runs. The performance helped Myers earn NL Player of the Month honors for June while boosting his career-high home run total to 19 on the season.
Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo leads the majors with 26 home runs, followed by Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant with 25 and Rockies baseman third Nolan Arenado and White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier with 23 apiece. Trumbo and Frazier (last year's champion) will be participating Monday.
Other participants include Dodgers' Corey Seager, Rockies' Carlos Gonzales, Reds' Adam Duval, Mariners' Robinson Cano and Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton.
