LOS ANGELES _ It wasn't a no-hitter this time, but the Padres' hits Sunday against Walker Buehler didn't amount to much, and the Dodgers won the finale of a three-game series, 6-1.
Using four relievers to get through the game, the Padres were within a run until a pair of two-run homers (by Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger) in the eighth inning off Tyler Webb took the air out of any possible last gasp by the visitors.
Buehler, the rookie right-hander who pitched the first six innings of the Dodgers' combined no-hitter against the Padres on May 4, was again mostly masterful in going seven innings, striking out eight and allowing one run on four hits.
Two-out doubles by Jose Pirela in the first inning and Travis Jankowski in the third yielded nothing, as did Pirela's leadoff single in the fourth.
The Padres did get a run after Freddy Galvis led off the fifth with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Raffy Lopez's sacrifice fly to left field.
That halved the Dodgers' lead, but Buehler retired the final nine batters he faced. The Padres got one hit _ A.J. Ellis' pinch-hit single in the eighth _ after Galvis' double.
With Joey Lucchesi (hip) needing more time on the disabled list, the Padres went with a bullpen stew on Sunday.
Matt Strahm threw two scoreless innings at the start before the Dodgers scored twice against Adam Cimber in the third.
Cimber wasn't hit hard, but a flare that dropped in front of right fielder Franmil Reyes, an inside-out double Chris Taylor slapped the other way down the right-field line and Kike Hernandez's single got the first run. Justin Turner then grounded into a double play that brought home Taylor, who slid home just ahead of catcher Raffy Lopez's tag on a throw from first baseman Eric Hosmer.
Kazuhisa Makita replaced Cimber to start the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings.
The loss kept the Padres from winning their second straight series against the Dodgers and first at Dodger Stadium since April 29-May 1, 2016. But in winning one of the three games, the Padres split their 10-game road trip.
They begin a homestand of the same length Monday afternoon with the opener of a four-game series against the Miami Marlins.
