Padraig McCrory stops Mickey Ellison to extend unbeaten record

Padraig McCrory said he felt for Mickey Ellison after blasting his opponent away inside a round on Wednesday night.

McCrory showed technique and power to demolish Ellison on the latest MTK Fight Night in Wakefield.

A heavy right hand wobbled Ellison, and it wasn't long before McCrory connected again, his opponent left sprawling across the bottom ropes before the referee waved the contest off.

The time of victory was just one minute 10 seconds into the opening round.

It extends McCrory's unbeaten record to 11-0, with five of those victories coming by way of stoppage.

"I feel great," 'The Hammer' said afterwards.

"I feel a bit bad on Mickey, he is a very good guy. And he was coming here to win. But it was good to get it done early.

"This is my first camp with Dee Walsh and Dan Anderson, and I feel I am getting much fitter and stronger and I think it showed tonight."

McCrory's win came just seven days after stablemate Lewis Crocker's WBO European welterweight title win.

Crocker stopped Louis Greene in the seventh round of their contest, with McCrory joking that his earlier stoppage earned him the bragging rights.

"Lewis Crocker had a great win last week. He is a class fighter and he can punch as well," McCrory said.

"It is good having that in the gym. Although I think I have the bragging rights after tonight."

McCrory's path could see him follow Crocker's trajectory and fight for a European title later this year.

"I have all belief in Jamie Conlan and the team. In boxing it is all about timing, and let's hope I get the right fight at the right time," he added.
