Padraig Harrington uses down-time during coronavirus pandemic to share expert golf tips

Irish golf icon Padraig Harrington is using down-time during the coronavirus pandemic productively by sharing pro tips online.

The three-time major winner has taken to social media to share detailed instructional videos with golfers.

Amidst uncertainty over the golf season following the cancellation of The Masters and PGA Championship, Harrington gave some tips on how to improve with indoor and outdoor drills.

Chipping lessons, bunker lessons and an indoor swing drill have all been posted by Harrington on his Twitter page.

The 48-year-old shares some of the knowledge he has built up over the years and talks viewers through each one of the drills step-by-step.

Harrington is Europe's Ryder Cup captain for September's showdown against the USA at Whistling Straits.

Covid-19 has cast doubts over whether it will go ahead, but Harrington told The Ian Dempsey Breakfast show on Today FM this morning that he remained focused on the tournament.

Speaking about his new online lessons, the Dubliner promised that he would be posting daily content for golfers of all levels to benefit from.

He said: "I will be posting something new every day and trying to do something a bit more expansive as we go along. They're pretty simple things and this is more for your regular person who plays golf rather than the top-end low handicap player.

"I don't normally have much time for social media, but now we're all stuck at home and I've a few lessons in my head and I thought it was a good time to get them out there.

"I hope to get better at social media in the next while, I need a YouTube channel and that sort of stuff but it's all there on my Twitter."
