Ireland's Padraig Harrington will be named captain of the European 2020 Ryder Cup team during a press conference called for Wentworth on Tuesday.
Harrington, a three-time major winner who played in six successive Ryder Cups from 1999 to 2010, was a vice-captain under Thomas Bjorn for Europe's memorable victory to take back the cup from American hands at Paris's Le Golf National last year.
The Irishman, who won't play on the tour until February due to injury, is a four-time winner of the Ryder Cup as a player and was well-liked by the current crop in France.
The 47-year-old has been overwhelming favourite to captain the visitors when they head to Whistling Straits in Wisconsin next year. Harrington has also played the course a number of times and key allies within the team, most notably Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, the heart of the side, have given him their public backing.
Bjorn and previous captains Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley are on the panel that decides who will lead Europe to America but the worst-kept secret in golf will be confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Westwood, who was another of the five European vice-captains in 2018 alongside Harrington, is expected to lead Europe to Italy in 2022 when the country hosts the Ryder Cup for the first time, in Rome.
