Pádraic Joyce adds Cian O'Neill to Galway management team

Cian O’Neill is to join the Galway footballers as a coach for the 2022 season.

The much-travelled O’Neill has previously had stints coaching Mayo, Kerry and most recently Cork, while he also managed his native Kildare for four seasons up to 2019 as well as having an involvement with Tipperary hurlers when they won the All-Ireland in 2010.

A long-time resident on Leeside, he took up an offer from then Rebel boss Ronan McCarthy to come on board once his Kildare stint ended though McCarthy’s reign came to a close after successive Munster final defeats this year and last, leaving O’Neill a free agent again.

Entering his third season at the helm, Galway manager Pádraic Joyce has quickly seized the opportunity to O’Neill snap up as he looks to rediscover the momentum of the early months of his reign in 2020.

Having topped the League when the pandemic hit in March of last year, Galway have since lost successive Connacht finals to Mayo and suffered relegation to Division Two in June.
