Paddy Pimblett tells Dustin Poirier he could submit him like Charles Oliveira

After watching Dustin Poirier be submitted by Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, Paddy Pimblett thinks 'The Diamond' would suffer the same fate if they fought.

Poirier missed out on the UFC lightweight title for the second time in his career when he was choked out by Oliveira in the second round last month.

The former interim titleholder first came up short against now-retired Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2019, losing by the same choke Oliveira submitted him with.

Pimblett has become one of the UFC's breakout stars since winning his debut last September and has backed himself against the promotion's best lightweights such as Poirier.

And 'The Baddy' told former champion Michael Bisping that he backed Poirier to beat Oliveira.

“I went with Poirier over Oliveira and lad, after watching that fight as well, I’m watching that thinking, ‘Lad, if Oliveira can do that to you Dustin, I can.'" he said on Believe You Me.

“It’s mad like, when you watch (it), MMA math doesn’t work, but when you watch fights, you’re just like, ‘Wow, if he can do that and get in that position, then f****** I can.'"

Pimblett was linked to a fight against UFC legend Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone next, but the Liverpudlian rubbished talks of the bout stating there is "no truth" to it.

The UFC is reportedly heading to London on March 19 and Pimblett said the promotion has told him he will be fighting on that card.

"I would like to fight in London, in front of my home crowd. It would be sick," he said.

"That's what I'm guessing (will happen) and that's what I've been told, that me and Molly [McCann] will be fighting on the same card. That's happening."

A return to London in 2022 would mark the UFC's first event in the British capital in three years, with their 2020 trip being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I'm going to take someone's head off again in the O2. I'll announce myself once again," Pimblett added.

Pimblett has expressed an interest in fighting Jared Gordon next, who is on a three-fight winning streak in the UFC.

Gordon outpointed Pimblett's teammate Chris Fishgold in 2020, with the American's last loss coming against now-champion Oliveira in 2019.

"I really don't care lad, but because he mentioned me in his post-fight interview and he beat me former teammate, I would like to fight Jared Gordon," he continued.

"He beat Fishy so obviously I would like to beat him and he's on a three-fight win streak, his last loss was to Oliveira."
