Paddy McGuinness has poked fun at Dominic Cummings’ trip to Barnard Castle with the help of a 70s classic.

The comedian shared his own version of (Is This the Way to) Amarillo by Tony Christie, swapping out the name of the Texas city for Barnard Castle.

The song pokes fun at Cummings’ decision to drive from Durham to the historical site during lockdown, a journey he said was to test his eyesight.

"Is this the way Barnard Castle? You see my vision's a bit of a hassle,’ McGuinness sings. "Is this the way Barnard Castle? Where sweet Mary [Cummings' wife] waits for me.”

"Sha la la la load of b******t, it was Mary's birthday treat," he finishes.

Sharing the song on Twitter, McGuinness wrote: “I’ve finally lost it in lockdown! #isthisthewaytobarnardcastle.”

The video swifty went viral, clocking up over 2.5 million views and 47,000 retweets.

Fans loved the hilarious track, with one Twitter user writing: “Can you release this as a charity single to benefit the nhs?”

First time I've laughed so much for a while.... Thank you.” wrote another.

A third wrote: “You have just won the internet!”

#isthisthewaytobarnardcastle also began trending after McGuinness’ video was released.

Boris Johnson is set to face questions today from senior MPs on the decision of Cummings to drive from London to Durham during lockdown.
