Paddy McGuinness deletes dig at Peter Kay comeback with fans in meltdown

Paddy McGuinness has deleted the tweet in which he poked fun at Peter Kay's return to the limelight.

Kay's official Instagram account released a statement over the weekend to deny he had any part in a new Channel 5 documentary that was billed as being 'in his own words.'

After the tweet was posted, Kay's old school friend and comedy partner McGuinness joined the hoards of fans responding in the comments.

The tweet caused particular excitement as this month marks two years since Peter cancelled his tour and disappeared from the limelight.

While many fans shared their enthusiasm at hearing from comedy favourite Kay, Paddy snapped back: "Never mind that. When did you start speaking in the third person?"

Many of Paddy's followers jumped on the cheeky swipe and seized the opportunity to ask him: "Never mind that, when are we going to get a new series of Max and Paddy?"

The tweet has since been mysteriously deleted from Paddy's social media page.

Schoolfriends Paddy and Peter have appeared in a range of hit shows together including Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, That Peter Kay Thing and Phoenix Nights.

But it's been a while since the pair were last seen together with Peter keeping a low profile in recent years.

It's not the first time Paddy had poked fun of Peter.

At the National TV Awards in January Paddy made a quip when Car Share picked up the award for best comedy.

While handing the gong to Sian Gibson, Paddy jokingly asked: "Where is he? Where is he?” - in reference to his absent friend.

In her speech, Sian - who met Kay at university - too the time to thank her collaborator.

"Thank you Peter, who is not here tonight, I will bring it round tomorrow," she said.

Backstage Sian said she would deliver the award to her co-star in Bolton, saying: "He'll be watching at home with a cup of tea - we are taking the award round to him tomorrow."

Almost a year later, Peter broke his social media silence to slam a Channel 5 documentary over the festive period.

A message to Peter's 746,000 Twitter followers read: "Very flattering of Channel 5 to commission the programme going out tonight, but just to let people know that Peter Kay: In His Own Words has an incredibly misleading title, as it doesn't feature any new interviews with Peter and all the footage is completely historic."

It added: "The title also gives the impression that Peter has been involved in the making of this documentary, which he hasn't. At all."
