Conor McGregor’s old sparring partner, Paddy “Hooligan” Holohan, wants to be President of Ireland.
The newly-elected Sinn Fein councillor for the Tallaght area in Dublin is setting his sights high.
But his next fight will be to win a seat in the Dail and he now has the plum job as his next immediate goal.
Asked if he wanted to be a TD someday and he replied: “I want to be President.
“I was actually in the Dail the other day, I was in visiting and looking around.
“Unless Sinn Fein become a power party in this country, I don’t think the changes that are needed are going to happen.
“The politics, the policies and the housing policies that are there already, they’re all failing.
“Everything is failing, the health service is failing, the nurses are going on strike. The house is on fire, that is what is wrong.
“And people are lighting it on fire when other people are trying to put it out again.”
Mr Holohan was speaking to Ella McSweeney, who was filling in for Ryan Tubridy on his RTE radio show this week.
The former prize fighter was promoting his new book, Hooligan, which goes on sale tomorrow.
He added: “We need to change what’s going on. For the last 100 years, the same parties have been going in and out. We need to fix this.”
Mr Holohan was an MMA fighter before retiring, he fought in the top division of the UFC and was a friend of McGregor.
