Paddy Doherty warned by medics he was 'hours from death' after contracting Covid-19

Paddy Doherty was warned that he "may not wake up" before he was rushed to hospital by medics after catching Covid-19.

The 61-year-old Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star has spoken of suffering from sweats and pains before paramedics arrived and gave him the harrowing warning.

While Paddy didn't want to be taken to hospital, his concerned wife Roseanne dialed 999 after his condition continued to deteriorate.

Medics then arrived on the scene and explained that he could be "hours away from death" if he did not receive medical attention.

His recollection of the events came as he battled COvid-19 and pneumonia after being rushed to hospital on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Paddy explained that his condition continued to get worse but he still didn't want to go to hospital at the time.

"I was getting worse. I had sweats, pains, exhaustion and headaches. I was in a bit of a mess," he told the publication.

"The paramedics arrived and said they needed to take me into hospital but I didn't want to go but they insisted because they were really worried for me."

He added: "They said 'If you don’t go in you may not wake up tomorrow'."

Paddy also told the publication that he had nothing but praise from the fantastic work of the NHS.

He added: "Apart from family I've never felt love like it. It's extraordinary. I feel I'm in safe hands."

The Celebrity Big Brother winner has warned fans not to underestimate the virus after he was hospitalised with Covid-19.

In a series of recent social media videos, Paddy appeared breathless as he spoke about his ordeal from a hospital bed in Chester Royal Infirmary with tubes in his nose.

While Paddy thanked his fans for their support, he added: "I'm a bit on the weak side and all that but I'm alive."

He went on to urge fans to take the virus and social distancing guidelines seriously.

"So listen, I want to say to everyone this is far from a joke, it's far from a wise crack.

"Be careful, keep your distance. I know it's easy saying that."
