Paddy Doherty begs people to take Covid seriously in breathless video from hospital bed

Paddy Doherty struggled to breathe between words as he sent out a stark message from his hospital bed - warning everyone to take coronavirus seriously.

The Celebrity Big Brother and Big Fat Gypsy Weddings star is in hospital after contracting Covid-19.

Breathless and with tubes in his nose, the 61-year-old sent out a warning to his fans that they need to protect themselves and others from the disease.

In a video posted to his Facebook page, he said: "I want to say thank you to every one of you for praying for me.

"I'm a bit on the weak side and all that but I'm alive."

He went on: "So listen, I want to say to everyone this is far from a joke, it's far from a wise crack.

"Be careful, keep your distance. I know it's easy saying that."

He said everyone needs to "think of your people" as the pandemic continues to rage across the world.

Paddy, who is topless and sitting in his hospital bed, still had a big smile on his face as he vowed to make people laugh in his six-and-a-half minute video.

"I will say this, don't underestimate Covid. It has knocked me down for six, it is what it is," he confessed.

But he added: "I'm gonna make you all laugh. I've been knocked out for the last couple of days.

"I can sit up now, I couldn’t sit up. Look, I can even move my hand, I couldn’t do that.

"This doctor came into me and said, 'Hello Mr Doherty', so I said, 'Doc, will you do me a favour? Will you call me Paddy?'

"So he says, 'Okay, you can call me Chris'."

Paddy told fans that his doctor had diagnosed him with double pneumonia and Covid-19 and that he would be given steroids.

While he admitted he's been able to share laughs with his doctor, he said: "But the point of my story is, be careful, I can’t believe I’m talking to you.

"Be lucky, be safe and God Bless."

Earlier today, Paddy's son Simey shared the worrying news that his dad had been admitted to hospital.

"Also claw seen in the lungs and tested positive for Covid. He's also on oxygen. Keep my father in prayer."

Paddy's wife Roseanne Doherty also asked for support as she shared a snap of her and her husband, writing: "Paddy has tested positive for COVID 19 please keep praying for him."
