Paddleboarder blown offshore by strong winds rescued in Tynemouth

A paddleboarder was rescued after being blown offshore by strong winds at Tynemouth.

The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and the Cullercoats RNLI were paged to the scene on Saturday afternoon by the Coastguard.

When they arrived, the paddleboarder was next to a fishing boat that had gone to his aid.

Crews found that he did not need medical assistance and helped him back to shore.

A spokesperson for the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade said: "HM Coastguard paged the Brigade and Cullercoats RNLI after receiving a report that a paddleboarder had been blown offshore from Tynemouth Longsands.

"Brigade members arrived on scene and kept a watch on the casualty, who was now located next to a fishing boat which had gone to his aid.

"The Lifeboat then quickly arrived on scene and found that the man on the board required no medical assistance, but was very grateful for a lift back to the beach as he was struggling against the offshore wind.

"The Lifeboat then returned the casualty to the beach, and after a quick word with two Brigade members, he then left the area.

"All rescue units were stood down within 15 minutes of being tasked to the incident."
