A normal service has returned at Paddington station after damage to overhead electric wires cause chaos for people travelling there on Sunday.

At around 1pm, Great Western Railway said all lines between Paddington and Reading had closed, with delays of more than one hour for some services.

Problems were attributed to "damage to the overhead electric wires between London Paddington and Slough".

However, a spokesperson for Great Western Railway has now said lines were clear from around 4.15pm and services are now running on time again.

He said: "As of about 4.15pm the lines were reopened.

"Trains started shortly after that."

He said that services since have mainly been on time, though are expected to be slightly busier than usual on Sunday evening.

However, no delays are expected for Monday morning.

Any knock on issues are set to finish on Sunday, though slightly more passengers than usual on services is all that is expected.

Earlier people said the amount of issues with Paddington of late had been "ridiculous".

An earlier statement from Transport for London said: “We are sorry for the disruption to your journey today. Our engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore a normal train service."
