Paddington Bear 50p coin: Where to find the rare Royal Mint coins

PA

Paddington Bear fans are in for a treat as a new 50p coin depicting the famous character enter circulation on Tuesday.

The new designs depict the beloved bear visiting the Tower of London and St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Royal Mint’s latest addition follows the release of Paddington Bear coins in 2018 to mark the 60th anniversary of the character, who was created by Michael Bond in 1958.

Last year’s coins show Paddington visiting two other London landmarks: Buckingham Palace and his namesake train station in the city centre.

Fans of the bear can buy the 2018 Paddington Bear coins on the Royal Mint’s website and the latest releases will be available to purchase soon.

A “mint condition” coin that has not entered circulation costs £10 whereas a limited edition version of the coin costs £60.

Nicola Howell, director of consumer coin at the Royal Mint, said: "Following the huge popularity of the coins featuring the much-loved bear last year, we thought it was only right that Paddington continued his adventures around London on UK coinage.

"Paddington Bear is a massive part of British popular culture and is a favourite amongst fans of all ages, who we're sure will be looking out for him in their change, the first of which will go into tills in the Royal Mint Experience."
