Paddington 2 to air after Queen's funeral in touching tribute to late monarch

A family favourite film is being aired on TV after the Queen's funeral on Monday (September 19). Paddington 2 will be shown on BBC One at 6.50pm.

The State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will be televised on the channel from 8am on Monday (September 19) until 5pm. A special episode of The One Show honouring the Queen's life will then be aired at 6.15pm.

Once finished, Paddington bear will entertain families across the country in the sequel to the beloved family film. The animated comedy will have a different tone from much of the scheduled television but the film is, in its own way, a special tribute to her majesty.

For her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen starred in a hilarious sketch with Paddington in which the pair shared afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace. They also enjoyed their own marmalade sandwiches.

Former Church of Scotland moderator, The Very Rev Dr Martin Fair, shared that the Queen's face "lit up" when she recalled her sketch with Paddington. He had stayed with the late monarch at Balmoral Castle at the end of August.

He said: “Her face lit up with the most radiant smile you could imagine, and she said, ‘it was rather fun, wasn’t it?'. As I look back on that evening, I’m so glad that she was in such good form – smiling, laughing and enjoying the recounting of special memories."
