‘Padayatra to push Govt. to start Mekedatu project’

Siddaramaiah, former Chief Minister, on Tuesday said the Congress will take out a padayatra to build pressure on the BJP Government in the State to start work on the Mekedatu project.

Fielding queries from reporters in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah accused the State Government of procrastinating on the issue. Though the Detailed Project Report (DPR) had been prepared during the previous Congress rule in the State and submitted to the Centre for environmental clearance, the incumbent Government has not been able to start work on the project.

The Congress was taking out a padayatra to build pressure on the State Government to secure early clearance from the Centre and start work on the project. He denied that there was any impediment to the project from the court. The Tamil Nadu Government was opposing it only for political reasons, he claimed. Even though more than two years had passed since the BJP Government came to power in Karnataka, the work on the project has not taken off.

Bitcoin scam

To queries on the bitcoin scam, Mr. Siddaramaiah urged the State Government to begin a probe to expose the guilty.

Responding to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s reported statement asking Mr. Siddaramaiah to furnish evidence to support his allegation that influential politicians were involved in the bitcoin scam, the Congress leader said he will provide evidence whenever he gets an opportunity, but added that the State Government should take up the investigation and bring the guilty to book.
