Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling on training with Randy Moss: ‘Couldn’t ask for a better mentor’

Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss is still working with Green Bay Packers receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Valdes-Scantling said he’s been training every week this offseason with Moss, who he now considers a mentor.

“Still training with him now. We train Monday through Thursdays,” Valdes-Scantling said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “He’s teaching me the game. He’s a 14-year (player), Hall of Famer. Couldn’t ask for a better mentor to go out and teach you how to be a great wide receiver.”

Valdes-Scantling is entering the 2019 season as one of the Packers’ top breakout candidates. He produced 581 receiving yards and two touchdowns as a rookie but is now slated to be a full-time starter in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Another offseason working with Moss could help “MVS” take his game to another level as a second-year player.

The physical similarities between Moss and Valdes-Scantling are obvious, especially from a height/weight/speed perspective. But the Packers receiver – who ran 4.37 in the 40-yard dash at 6-4 – said Moss’ best advice has been to pave his own path.

“Just go out and do what you do well,” Valdes-Scantling said. “Don’t try and emulate anyone else. Don’t try and go out and be like how he was. Just be you. That’s the biggest thing he’s taught.”

Valdes-Scantling and the Packers return to Green Bay for the start of training camp on July 24, with the first practice scheduled for July 25.
