Packers WR Geronimo Allison clears concussion protocol, to play vs. Raiders

Green Bay Packers receiver Geronimo Allison has passed the league’s concussion protocol and will start on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Allison absorbed a crushing hit to the head while diving for a pass early in the second half on Monday night against the Detroit Lions. He was diagnosed with a concussion and didn’t practice this week. Originally listed as doubtful, Allison was upgraded to questionable on Saturday and cleared the NFL’s mandated protocol in time to play.

The time between the original hit and returning to play will be only six days.

The league’s protocol is a five-step process that ends when a player is cleared for contact without restriction. Playing at home gave the Packers an extra day for Allison to be cleared by one of the NFL’s independent consultants.

The Packers won’t have Davante Adams (toe) but will have both Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (knee, ankle) available on Sunday.

Over six games this season, Allison has 13 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He’s catching a career-low 54.2 percent of his target and averaging 24.2 yards per game and 6.0 yards per target.
