Packers WR Davante Adams ‘just fine’ after practice injury scare

Losing a star player during a training camp practice is always one of the greatest fears of coaches while preparing a team for the NFL season.

Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers got another big scare during Wednesday’s practice.

Receiver Davante Adams went down during an 11-on-11 drill and had to briefly leave the field, but the three-time Pro Bowler eventually returned for the walkthrough portion of the practice.

LaFleur wasn’t at all worried about Adams’ status following the practice.

“Fortunately for us, he’s going to be just fine,” LaFleur said.

Adams, who caught 83 passes for 997 yards and five scores during the 2019 season, is one of the Packers’ most irreplaceable players. He’s not only Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target in the passing game, but he’s one of the game’s most talented and productive pass-catchers and the only sure thing the Packers have at receiver entering 2020.

Adams played in 12 games last season, missing four due to a toe injury. During the postseason, he caught 17 passes for 298 yards and two more scores.

LaFleur has had to deal with a few injury scares to start camp. Center Corey Linsley missed Tuesday’s practice, but he returned on Wednesday. Outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith and left tackle David Bakhtiari both exited practice on Tuesday with undisclosed injuries. Bakhtiari was in pads on Wednesday but didn’t participate in team drills. Also on Tuesday, defensive lineman Montravius Adams needed a cart to exit the field, but his injury is not believed to be serious.

LaFleur gave veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis a veteran rest day on Wednesday.

The Packers return to practice on Thursday. The session will be held at Lambeau Field. LaFleur wants his players to get used to playing in a stadium environment without fans.
