Packers WR Davante Adams doesn’t practice, likely doubtful to play vs. Saints

Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams missed a third-straight practice on Friday and will likely be considered doubtful when the team’s final injury report for Week 3 comes out later Friday afternoon.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Adams would be given the next few days to heal before making a final decision but confirmed Adams is unlikely to play on Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints.

Adams injured his hamstring in the second half of the Packers’ Week 2 win over the Detroit Lions.

The Packers went 4-0 without Adams last season, including road wins over the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. Although Sunday’s game against the Saints is an important early-season matchup in the NFC, having Adams healthy for the rest of the season is far more important, giving the Packers incentive for taking the cautious path. Hamstring injuries can linger and negatively impact a receiver if not allowed to fully heal.

If Adams doesn’t play, the Packers would start Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard as the team’s top two receivers. Tyler Ervin, a hybrid running back/receiver, would likely have an increased role. The Packers also have Malik Taylor on the active roster, and Robert Foster and Darrius Shepherd are available on the practice squad.

Through two games, Adams has a team-high 17 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.

More information will be available on Adams, defensive lineman Kenny Clark, offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins and tight end Josiah Deguara when the official injury report arrives.
