The Green Bay Packers now know the quarterback they’ll face during Saturday’s NFC Divisional Round playoff game.
Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams ruled out John Wolford due to a neck injury on Thursday, meaning Jared Goff will start at quarterback against the Packers.
Wolford, who injured his neck during the Rams’ win over the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Wild Card Round, had started the last two games due a thumb injury suffered by Goff.
McVay had waited to make a decision at quarterback, even though Wolford didn’t practice all week.
The Rams listed Goff as a full participant each day this week. Packers coach Matt LaFleur said his team had been preparing believing Goff would start.
“It doesn’t change much,” LaFleur said after learning of the Rams’ decision to rule out Wolford.
The Rams went 9-6 in Goff’s 15 starts this season. He threw 20 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions and had a passer rating of 90.0. Over the last two seasons, Goff has 36 total turnovers, including 29 interceptions. His thumb was surgically repaired now almost three weeks ago.
Last week, Goff replaced Wolford in the first half in Seattle. He ended up completing 9-of-19 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown during the Rams’ 30-20 win.
With Wolford out, former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles will be the top backup behind Goff.
