Packers trim roster, release WR Jawill Davis

The Green Bay Packers are likely preparing to add at least one new player to the roster in the coming days.

The team added another open roster spot Saturday by releasing receiver Jawill Davis.

Davis played seven snaps on offense and three on special teams during the Packers’ preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Thursday night. He returned one kickoff for 24 yards.

Davis was originally claimed off waivers from the New York Giants on May 7.

The need for reinforcements elsewhere likely led to Davis’ exit.

The Packers are thin at several positions due to injuries. Inside linebacker took a major hit with news of Oren Burks’ pectoral injury, and both Danny Vitale and Malcolm Johnson are now dealing with injuries at the fullback position.

The Packers roster is now at 88 players, leaving two available spots for GM Brian Gutekunst to worth with.
