Packers trade OLB Reggie Gilbert to Titans for seventh-round pick

Happy with the depth of his outside linebacker room, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst agreed to send Reggie Gilbert to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a seventh-round pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Gilbert, who is currently out with a knee injury, was fifth on the Packers’ depth chart at outside linebacker, trailing new starters Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, 2018 sack leader Kyler Fackrell and first-round pick Rashan Gary.

Gilbert, 26, tallied 2.5 sacks and 38 tackles while playing in all 16 games last season.

Sending Gilbert to Tennessee could open the door for a young player such as undrafted free agent Randy Ramsey to make the 53-man roster. Or the Packers could decide to keep only four outside linebackers, opening up a roster spot at another position.

The Packers originally signed Gilbert as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona in 2016. The former defensive end transitioned to outside linebacker and turned himself into a serviceable rotational player and special teams asset.
