Packers trade for Giants LB B.J. Goodson

The Green Bay Packers finally found some help at inside linebacker.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers and New York Giants agreed to a trade that will send former starting linebacker B.J. Goodson to Green Bay.

The Giants were planning on waiving Goodson, who started 13 games for New York during the 2018 season, but the Packers decided to skip the waiver claim process and acquire the player through trade.

The Giants took the former Clemson standout in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. The 6-1, 242-pound linebacker delivered 123 tackles, six pass breakups, two interceptions and two forced fumbles over 37 games and 20 starts with the Giants.

His best season came in 2018 when he produced 61 tackles and a pair of interceptions over 15 games.

Goodson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds, did 30 bench press reps and finished the three-cone drill in 7.05 seconds at the 2016 combine.

The Packers initial 53-man roster included Oren Burks, Ty Summers and James Crawford behind Blake Martinez at inside linebacker. Burks is still healing from a partially torn pectoral. The Packers must release a player to make room for Goodson.
