Packers to wear No. 15 decal to honor Bart Starr during 2019 season

The Green Bay Packers announced they’ll be wearing No. 15 decals on their helmets to honor Bart Starr during the 2019 season.

Starr, a five-time champion and Hall of Fame quarterback, passed away at the age of 85 last month.

Starr’s No. 15 is already retired by the Packers. The iconic number will now adorn every gold helmet worn by the team during the 2019 season, which begins Sept. 5 against the Chicago Bears.

A week later, the Packers will celebrate Starr’s life during a weekend-long celebration in Green Bay. The celebration will include a halftime ceremony during the Packers’ home opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Packers will also donate a $250,000 impact grant to the Bart and Cherry Starr Foundation.

Starr was the quarterback and on-field leader of Vince Lombardi’s Packers dynasty in the 1960s. He was a four-time All-Pro, two-time Super Bowl MVP and a member of the NFL’s 1960s All-Decade Team. Beloved on and off the field, Starr remained close to the franchise throughout his life, even as his health worsened in recent years.
