Packers to release TE Evan Baylis to make room on roster for OLB Tim Williams

The Green Bay Packers are expecting to release tight end Evan Baylis as the corresponding roster move to claiming outside linebacker Tim Williams off of waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Baylis, who was promoted to the 53-man roster last week, will have a chance to return on the practice squad, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Baylis must first clear waivers.

The 25-year-old tight end played one snap on offense and 13 on special teams during the Packers’ 34-27 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Packers had Baylis on the practice squad for the first three weeks of the season. He was activated in response to Jimmy Graham’s injuries last week.

The Packers needed to clear a roster spot for Williams, who will be added to the 53-man roster once he passes a physical. If cleared, the move will likely be announced Thursday.

A third-round pick of the Ravens in 2017, Williams produced only 18 tackles and two sacks over 19 games in Baltimore. He was released Monday.
