Packers, Texans to hold joint practices in Green Bay on Aug. 5-6

The Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans will hold two joint practices in Green Bay before the two teams face off in the preseason opener at Lambeau Field.

According to the Texans training camp schedule, the joint practices are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6. The two teams play a preseason game at Lambeau Field on Thursday, Aug. 8.

The Packers haven’t held joint practices in Green Bay since 2005. New coach Matt LaFleur likes the idea of bringing another team to town for joint practices.

“I’ve done it the last two years,” LaFleur said, via Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com. “In Tennessee we scrimmaged vs. Tampa before our second preseason game, which I thought was awesome. You can get so much good-on-good work. And quite honestly, you can practice your guys and not have to play them as long in the preseason game.”

The Texans have held joint practices every year under coach Bill O’Brien. They’ll provide a unique chance for Wisconsin native and former Badger standout J.J. Watt to return to his home state and practice and play in front of friends and family.

Watt said it will all be “really special,” according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

The Packers and Texans open training camp on July 25. The Packers will soon release their full training camp schedule for 2019.
