Packers TE Robert Tonyan joins rare group with 10th TD catch

Robert Tonyan became just the third tight end in the long history of the Green Bay Packers to reach double-digit touchdown catches in a single season.

Tonyan caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers in the first half against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday night, giving him 10 for the season. He joins Paul Coffman (1982) and Keith Jackson (1996) as the only tight ends in team history with 10 or more in a season.

Tonyan is just one touchdown away from tying Coffman’s team record, and he now leads all NFL tight ends in touchdown catches this season.

Including Tonyan, the Packers have now had 27 different instances of a player reaching 10 touchdown catches in a season.

The team record for catches by a tight end in a single season is 61, set by Jermichael Finley in 2012. Tonyan came into Week 15 with 46 catches. He added two more in the first half Saturday, bringing his season total to 48. Only seven tight ends in team history have ever caught 50 or more passes in a season.
