Packers take WR Denzel Mims in final Dane Brugler mock draft

A review and breakdown of predictions for the Green Bay Packers in final mock drafts from a few of the most prominent draft analysts in the business:

The mock draft: Dane Brugler, The Athletic

The pick: WR Denzel Mims, Baylor

The reasoning: “While the consistency hasn’t always been there, Mims checks boxes for speed, length and playmaking skills, giving Aaron Rodgers another weapon on the outside.”

Our breakdown: Mims, with all his experience, size and athleticism, looks like a prototypical pick for the Packers at receiver. He started for three years at Baylor, catching at least eight touchdowns each season, but he really set himself apart during the pre-draft process. Mims dominated cornerbacks at the Senior Bowl, proving capable of creating separation while running the full route tree, and then aced (almost) all of the workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine. Even at 6-3 and 207 pounds, Mims ran under 4.4, and he had the best three-cone time at the event (6.66 seconds). He is a high RAS player, with the physical upside to be an above average starting receiver at the next level. Given Mims’ combination of talent and athleticism and the Packers’ need at receiver, this is a realistic pick.

Our draft profile: Denzel Mims

Draft Wire’s interview: On what teams will be getting in Denzel Mims: “They’re getting a respectful, hard-working young man, first and foremost,” Mims said. “I’m just a guy that loves football at the end of the day. They’re getting a guy that’s gonna help his team win more games than they won the year before.”
