Packers take intriguing LB-WR combo in Brugler’s post-combine mock draft

Dane Brugler’s post-combine mock draft at The Athletic sent an intriguing linebacker-receiver combination to the Green Bay Packers, who have big needs at both positions.

In Brugler’s mock, the Packers got Wisconsin linebacker Zack Baun at No. 30 overall and Notre Dame receiver Chase Claypool at No. 62.

Both players could be position versatile. Baun has experience at edge rusher and NFL potential at off-ball linebacker, while Claypool’s size and athleticism could make him a physically dominant receiver or a mismatch player at tight end.

The Packers are probably starting over at inside linebacker, a position many believe Baun can play at the next level, and his pass-rushing ability could add a nice wrinkle for defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

Here’s Brugler on Baun: “A defensive playmaker, Baun emerged as one of the best pass rushers in college football last season. He will move to more of an off-ball role in the NFL where the Packers could unleash his athleticism in coverage and as a blitzer.”

Claypool is also a projection. He didn’t take over games at Notre Dame, but he dominated the combine at 6-4 and 238 pounds, running 4.42 in the 40-yard dash and hitting 40.5″ in the vertical leap. At his size and with his play style, he could transition to tight end and be a Jared Cook-like weapon in the NFL.

In Brugler’s mock, the Packers passed on receivers such as Tee Higgins, Jalen Reagor and Denzel Mims in the first round to take Baun. Both Kenneth Murray and Patrick were off the board by 30. In the third round, the Packers addressed a need at offensive tackle with Ben Bartch of St. John’s  (MN).
