Packers starting offensive line takes shape to open OTAs

The Green Bay Packers’ first starting offensive line of the offseason workout program looks exactly like most expected.

According to several media reports, the Packers opened organized team activities (OTAs) with newcomer Billy Turner at right guard, Bryan Bulaga at right tackle and Lane Taylor at left guard, with David Bakhtiari at left tackle and Corey Linsley at center.

The Packers dipped into free agency to add Turner, who played right tackle and left guard for the Denver Broncos last season. He is opening OTAs as the starter at right guard, where Justin McCray and Byron Bell handled most of the work for the Packers in 2018.

Turner signed in Green Bay for $28 million over four years, making it clear the Packers viewed him as an immediate starter. He is expected to provide an upgrade at right guard and versatility along the offensive line for new line coach Adam Stenavich.

The rest of the offensive line remains unchanged from last season, with Taylor holding onto the left guard spot and Bulaga locked in at right tackle.

It remains possible that second-round pick Elgton Jenkins could challenge Taylor or Jenkins for playing time at guard, but the rookie will have to earn it this summer.

Taylor would appear to be the most vulnerable of the five current starters, given his struggles after coming back from ankle surgery last season and the Packers’ scheme change.
