Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst is adding veteran help at the receiver position.
According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Packers have signed receiver Ryan Grant, a former draft pick of the Washington Redskins who has 123 career catches in the NFL.
Grant, who worked out for the Packers last week, played in two games for the Oakland Raiders to start the 2019 season, catching four passes for 14 yards. He was released on Sept. 25.
Grant has started 26 NFL games over six seasons. His best season came in 2017, when he caught 45 passes for 573 yards and four touchdowns with the Redskins. A year later, he started 10 games for the Indianapolis Colts, catching 35 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown.
A quick receiver with 76 career catches gaining first downs, Grant could provide the Packers with a reliable player in the slot or as a perimeter possession receiver. At the very least, Grant is an experienced player who can add to a position group currently ravaged by injury.
The Packers are already without Davante Adams (turf toe), and Geronimo Allison left Monday night’s win with head and chest injuries. It’s possible neither will be ready to play Sunday against the Raiders.
According to Yates, the Packers will waive running back Tra Carson to make room for Grant on the 53-man roster.
