Packers sign former Wisconsin DL Olive Sagapolu

In addition to signing running back Corey Grant, the Green Bay Packers also added rookie defensive lineman and former Wisconsin Badgers standout Olive Sagapolu to the roster on Friday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Sagapolu is on the field and wearing No. 67 for the start of Friday’s training camp practice at Nitschke Field.

The 6-2, 335-pound Sagapolu was an All-Big Ten pick for the Badgers as a nose tackle during the 2017 season. His senior season ended with a shoulder injury after eight games. Sagapolu tallied eight tackles for losses and five sacks over his final two seasons in Madison.

The Samoan native is maybe best known for his backflips on the beach.

If nothing else, the flips are a ridiculous show of agility and athleticism from a man Sagapolu’s size.

In fact, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic listed Sagapolu at No. 4 on his annual list of college football’s “Freaks” before the 2018 season, noting the flips and his strong testing numbers in the broad jump, vertical jump and 10-yard split almost 350 pounds.

Adding Grant and Sagapolu puts the Packers roster at 91 players to begin Friday’s practice, meaning the team needed to make a roster move to clear one spot. The team had a roster spot open after releasing veteran defensive lineman Mike Daniels on Wednesday.

Sagapolu played both on the nose in three-man fronts and at defensive tackle in four-man fronts for the Badgers.
