Packers set franchise record for avoiding turnovers

No team in Green Bay Packers has produced more games without a turnover than the 2019 team.

The Packers finished Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears without a turnover, marking the team’s ninth game without a turnover this season – a franchise record and currently the most among NFL teams in 2019.

The Packers previously had eight games without a turnover in 2009, 2015 and 2016.

It’s been a winning formula. The Packers are 8-1 in games without a giveaway in 2019. They’re 3-2 when they have one or more turnovers.

Through 14 games, the Packers have only nine turnovers.

Aaron Rodgers lost a fumble in the second half but replay ruled the Packers quarterback was down before the fumble, negating the giveaway. He also had an interception dropped by Bears linebacker Nick Kwiatkowski, so there’s been some luck involved.

Overall, Rodgers has thrown just two interceptions this season. Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw two interceptions – and probably should have thrown at least two more – on Sunday.

Taking the ball away has been another important factor in creating the Packers’ 11-3 start. Green Bay’s defense has at least one takeaway in 10 games, including the three in Sunday’s win. The team’s record in those games? 10-0.

The Packers haven’t been winning pretty, but they’re winning close games and not beating themselves.
