Packers safety Adrian Amos on Stafford: ‘He is a great quarterback’

The Green Bay Packers are well aware of how dangerous Matthew Stafford can be. There is definitely a lot of respect in Wisconsin for the longtime Lions quarterback, who has beaten them four times in a row and led the Lions to at least 30 points in all of those meetings.

One of the Packers who Stafford will challenge in Monday night’s matchup is safety Adrian Amos. The new Packers defender is off to a great start in Green Bay, but he has nothing but respect and praise for his old foe in Stafford.

“He is a great quarterback,” Amos told reporters earlier this week. He can make all the throws. He has a big arm. Playing them over the years, he is one of the top guys in the league. You can’t make it easy on them quarterbacks. Hopefully, we can get some pressure on them.”

Amos knows Stafford well, having faced him several times as a member of the Chicago Bears. Interestingly, the veteran safety talked up Stafford’s ability to run as one of the reasons why it’s hard to play against No. 9.

“He is more athletic than people think,” Amos said. “I know over the years, he had a lot of scrambles for first downs. You never like to see those in the back-end when you are playing good coverage. He can get out of the pocket, run for the first down and it is a new set of downs for the offense.”
