Packers release DL Eric Cotton, roster back to 90 players

Adding running back Corey Grant and defensive lineman Olive Sagapolu to the 90-man roster required a corresponding roster move for the Green Bay Packers on Friday. The release of defensive lineman Eric Cotton was that corresponding move.

The team announced all three roster moves Friday.

The Packers had an open roster spot after releasing defensive lineman Mike Daniels on Wednesday.

Both Grant and Sagapolu were in uniform and available to practice for the Packers on Friday. Cotton, however, was the odd man out.

The Packers signed Cotton as an undrafted free agent rookie on Dec. 18 of last season. He spent the final two weeks on the team’s practice squad and participated fully in the offseason workout program.

Replacing Cotton along the defensive line will be Sagapolu, a rookie from Wisconsin who was an All-Big Ten selection during the 2017 season. The Packers list Sagapolu at 6-2 and 331 pounds.

The Packers also added Grant, who spent the last four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’ll add a versatile option at running back and a potential solution at kick returner as the Packers work through training camp.
