Packers re-fill practice squad by signing S Tyler Coyle, CB Anthony Johnson

The Green Bay Packers re-filled the team’s 16-player practice squad by signing safety Tyler Coyle and cornerback Anthony Johnson over the last two days.

The Packers had open spots after signing safety Benny Sapp III and receiver Bo Melton from the practice squad to the 53-man roster over the last week.

In Coyle and Johnson, the Packers are getting a pair of recently undrafted secondary players who will have a chance to stick around on futures contracts once the 2023 season is over in Green Bay.

Coyle (6-1, 209) went undrafted out of Purdue in 2021. He spent most of 2021 and 2022 with the Dallas Cowboys and even appeared in three games, tallying eight tackles (including three on special teams) over 37 defensive snaps and 56 on special teams. The Packers hosted Coyle for a workout earlier this season.

Johnson (6-2, 205) is an undrafted free agent rookie out of Virginia who is starting his second stint on the Packers practice squad. He was released by Green Bay in late November.

Coyle and Johnson join Zyon Gilbert as the only cornerbacks and safeties on the Packers practice squad.
