Packers RB Dexter Williams suffers MCL sprain vs. 49ers

The Green Bay Packers will be without practice squad running back Dexter Williams for at least three weeks.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams sprained his MCL against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night and is expected to miss three weeks or more.

Called up from the practice squad for Week 9, Williams rushed two times for eight yards before exiting the game. He played nine total snaps.

Coach Matt LaFleur said the plan was for Williams to play more against the 49ers, especially with the Packers in tough shape at running back.

Williams, a sixth-round pick in 2019, has played in six career games, rushing seven times for 19 yards.

Per new league rules this season, Williams reverted back to the practice squad following Thursday night’s win. He has been elevated the maximum two times already this season.

If the Packers place Williams on injured reserve, they’ll have an opportunity to add a new player to the practice squad.
