Packers RB Aaron Jones named offense’s “player of the game” vs. Vikings

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that running back Aaron Jones was named the offense’s “player of the game” for Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones, who was also nominated for the FedEx “Ground Player of the Week” award, carried 23 times for 116 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 34 yards.

He’s competing with Vikings running back Dalvin Cook and Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for the weekly award.

Jones was terrific running the football against a tough defensive front. Of his 23 carries, 16 produced “efficient” runs, which is considered any run that gains at least four yards, picks up a first down or scores a touchdown. Any efficiency over 60 percent is great. Jones finished at 69.6 percent.

Jones nearly had a much bigger day in the receiving department, but Aaron Rodgers underthrew a deep pass to him in the second half. Jones ran an effective wheel route and was behind the coverage of Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks, but the throw gave Kendricks a chance to recover and break it up.

“He did an unbelievable job,” LaFleur said.
