Packers promote TE Evan Baylis from practice squad to active roster

The Green Bay Packers used the roster spot gained by trading away receiver Trevor Davis to promote tight end Evan Baylis from the practice squad to the active roster.

The team announced the moves Thursday.

Baylis, 25, was signed to the team’s practice squad in late December of last year. He began the 2019 season back on the practice squad before earning a spot on the 53-man roster this week.

An undrafted free agent from Oregon, Baylis (6-5, 250) proved to be a capable blocker in Matt LaFleur’s offense during the preseason. He also caught three passes for 23 yards a touchdown pass over four games.

Baylis’ promotion may suggest that veteran tight end Jimmy Graham, who is currently dealing with a groin injury, could miss Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

The Packers also have Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan at tight end. Rookie Jace Sternberger is on injured reserve.

Baylis will wear No. 88.
