Packers place 2020 sixth-round pick Simon Stepaniak on retired list

A member of the Green Bay Packers’ 2020 draft class has retired.

Guard Simon Stepaniak, a sixth-round pick of the Packers, was placed on the reserve/retired list on Saturday.

Stepaniak missed his entire rookie season after tearing his ACL late in his final collegiate season at Indiana.

According to Bill Huber of SI.com, Stepaniak’s decision was based on mental health and not physical condition or injury.

The Packers made Stepaniak the 209th overall pick in the 2020 draft. He spent 13 weeks on the non-football injury list and four more on injured reserve last season, but he passed his physical and was able to practice with the team to start training camp.

Stepaniak started 31 games at Indiana. A hulking guard prospect, he put up 37 reps on the bench press at the 2020 combine.
