Packers parting ways with WRs coach Alvis Whitted

The Green Bay Packers will have a new wide receivers coach in 2020.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers parted ways with receivers coach Alvis Whitted, who was originally hired by Matt LaFleur as a member of his first coaching staff in 2019.

The Packers got a Pro Bowl season from No. 1 receiver Davante Adams but struggled to find or develop a legitimate No. 2 receiver. Although Allen Lazard emerged as a breakout player over the final two months of the year, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison both had disappointing seasons.

It appears the many struggles at the position will cost Whitted his job in Green Bay.

The Packers are making it clear the results at receiver weren’t good enough in 2019, so don’t be surprised if there’s significant overhaul at the position this offseason.

Replacing Whitted will be LaFleur’s second change to the coaching staff this offseason. He hired veteran defensive backs coach Jerry Gray to replace Jason Simmons this week.
