Packers optimistic WR Davante Adams will return to play vs. Chargers

The Green Bay Packers are optimistic receiver Davante Adams will return after missing four straight games with a toe injury and play Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Adams practiced all week in a limited capacity and was officially listed as questionable for Sunday. Packers coach Matt LaFleur suggested Adams would be a game-time decision on Friday, but the team clearly feels the two-time Pro Bowler is trending toward making his return to the field.

Barring a setback before Sunday’s matchup with the Chargers, Adams will be active and play for the first time since Sept. 26.

The Packers were increasingly more effective on offense in the four games without Adams, winning all four matchups and averaging almost 33 points per game.

It’s certainly possible adding a legitimate No. 1 receiver back into an improving offense that is spreading the football around and featuring running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams could take Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to another level.

In his first four games of 2019, Adams caught 25 passes for 378 yards and no touchdowns. He caught 69.4 percent of his targets, produced first downs on 80 percent of his catches and averaged 10.5 yards per target and 15.1 yards per catch, with five catches over 20 yards.

The Packers and Chargers are scheduled for a 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff from Los Angeles on Sunday. Inactive lists are due 90 minutes before.
