Packers meet with Jawaan Taylor, Dalton Risner at combine

Two of the top offensive linemen in the 2019 NFL draft met with the Green Bay Packers at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Although teams meet with most of the prospects at the combine, Florida’s Jawaan Taylor and Kansas State’s Dalton Risner both confirmed formal meetings with the Packers during media appearances Thursday.

According to Joe Ledyard of The Draft Network, Taylor has met with at least six teams:

Ross Uglem of CheeseheadTV asked Risner about his meeting with the Packers, and he confirmed chats with offensive line coach Adam Stenavich and assistant offensive line coach Luke Butkus:

Both players could be options for the Packers in the first round. The team’s offensive line has an immediate hole at right guard and a future need at right tackle, and both Taylor and Risner have impact potential at the two positions. They each could help at right guard and provide insurance at right tackle in 2019 before transitioning out to the edge full-time in place of Bryan Bulaga, who is entering the final year of his contract.

Although edge rusher, safety and tight end have been the most popular first-round picks for the Packers in most national mock drafts, don’t downplay the chances of GM Brian Gutekunst using one of his first-rounders to solidify the offensive line. Taylor at No. 12 or Risner at No. 30 is possible.
