The Green Bay Packers were among the teams to meet with Southeast Missouri State offensive lineman Drew Forbes before the draft.
According to Adam King of KFVS-12, the Packers hosted a pre-draft visit for Forbes, a fast rising FCS product who fully caught the NFL’s attention with an impressive pro day workout.
Tom Silverstein of PackersNews.com confirmed Forbes was in Green Bay for an official visit.
Forbes (6-4, 308) played in 46 career games and made 35 starts at left tackle for Southeastern Missouri State, the same school attended by last year’s seventh-round pick, Kendall Donnerson.
Forbes’ experience at left tackle and overall athleticism could put him in position to re-join Donnerson in Green Bay.
At his pro day last month, Forbes ran the 40-yard dash in 4.93 seconds, put up 28 reps on the bench press, hit 30.5″ on the vertical and 8-11 in the broad jump and finished the three-cone drill in 7.65 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.70.
The testing numbers make Forbes one of the fastest, most explosive and most agile offensive line prospects in this year’s draft.
The Packers likely see Forbes as a perfect player to move inside to guard, where his lack of length would be neutralized and his natural quickness and power could be highlighted, especially in the zone-blocking scheme.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranked Forbes as his 10th best offensive guard prospect in this year’s draft and a likely mid-round pick.
“Overall, Forbes’ lack of length and punch timing could make him vulnerable vs. quick defensive tackles, but all the mental and physical ingredients are there for him to develop into a quality NFL guard,” Brugler wrote in his draft guide.
