Packers meet formally with LSU OT Saahdiq Charles

The Green Bay Packers have met with the starting left tackle for the national champion LSU Tigers.

According to Jordan Reid of The Draft Network, the Packers are one of the many teams that have had a formal pre-draft interview with offensive tackle prospect Saahdiq Charles, a three-year starter at left tackle for LSU.

Although teams cannot have in-person pre-draft visits due to the coronavirus pandemic, players are allowed to meet with teams virtually.

The Packers have a long-term need at offensive tackle, especially on the right side, where Rick Wagner replaced Bryan Bulaga last month. Teams in need of a tackle like the Packers will want to do extensive work on Charles, who was suspended for a game during the 2018 season and then suspended for six more games in 2019.

Charles is also unrefined as a player. In pass protection, he allowed 20 or more pressures during each of his three seasons, including 21 pressures on 419 pass-blocking snaps in 2019, per Pro Football Focus.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com called him a “work in progress” as a tackle prospect.

However, Charles possesses good length and athleticism, giving him developmental appeal at the next level.

The Packers have also met with Houston offensive tackle Josh Jones.
