Packers, Mark Murphy creating coronavirus relief funds in Wisconsin

The Green Bay Packers and team president Mark Murphy are creating COVID-19 relief funds aimed at assisting suffering areas of Wisconsin.

The team announced the establishment of a $1.5 million relief fund on Monday. Of the $1.5 million, $1 million will support Green Bay and Brown County, with the other $500,000 directed towards areas in Milwaukee.

Separately, Murphy is donating $240,000 of his own money to relief efforts around Green Bay.

“We are facing an unprecedented challenge in our communities,” Murphy said. “We know our nonprofit support agencies will be performing their usual excellent work, but they’ll need additional resources as various needs and gaps in coverage develop in the coming weeks and months. The Packers are committed to supporting them now and into the future as we all work together to weather this difficult time.”

On Monday, Wisconsin governor Tony Evers announced the state will be shutting down all non-essential businesses on Tuesday.

In an effort to curb the spread of the disease, the Packers closed Lambeau Field and associated businesses to all non-essential personnel on March 13.
