Packers losing defensive assistant coach to Broncos

A low-level defensive assistant coach is leaving the Green Bay Packers for a chance to be a positional assistant with the Denver Broncos.

According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post, the Broncos are expected to hire Packers defensive quality control assistant Christian Parker to be the team’s new defensive backs coach.

Parker spent the last two seasons as the quality control assistant for former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. According to the team’s website, Parker assisted Pettine “with a focus on coaching the secondary in addition to breaking down opponent game film and analyzing their offensive tendencies, developing the playbook, compiling team and player reports and coordinating the opponent scout team.”

In Denver, Parker will get a chance to coach the Broncos’ secondary, providing his first opportunity as a position coach at the NFL level.

Matt LaFleur has watched three different assistants from his staff get promotions elsewhere this offseason. The Packers also lost senior offensive analyst Butch Barry to the San Francisco 49ers and offensive quality control assistant Kevin Koger to the Los Angeles Chargers.
