Packers likely headed to Winnipeg to play preseason game vs. Raiders

The Green Bay Packers’ third game of the 2019 preseason is looking more and more like it’ll be played in Winnipeg.

Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press reports that the plan for the Packers to play the Oakland Raiders in the Manitoba city is “in its final stages” and is all but confirmed.

The Packers’ official schedule lists the date and location of their preseason game against the Raiders as to be determined, although team president Mark Murphy has publicly discussed the possibility of the game taking place in Canada.

The Packers last played a preseason game in Canada in 1997, beating the Buffalo Bills in Toronto.

Saskatchewan was also discussed as a potential location for the preseason game against the Raiders, who are considered the “home team.” The game would most likely be played Friday, Aug. 23 or Saturday, Aug. 24.

IG Field is home to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. It opened in 2013 and holds just over 33,000 people.
